"Irene" was built in 1920 by Ted Appleyard, the grandson of the founder of Appleyard Boats, at his family's boatyard in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Ted was18 years old and we understand that “Irene” was built as his apprentice masterpiece.
Ted must have liked her as he kept her until he died in 1995. We do not know why he called her “Irene”
“Irene” is built of mahogany and has an oak frame. She is in excellent original condition and has just had her underwater areas professionally stripped back to bear wood, checked and repainted in a two pack system . The external areas were re-varnished in 2012 and are in fantastic condition. The mahogany cabin has bevelled windows and seating for six plus a couple of children.
The engine is a Volvo Penta 10HP twin petrol which is housed under a bevelled glass cabinet. This has been recently serviced, including both oil and fuel filter changes.
All the normal safety features have been fitted, these include, a full rewire, electrical isolation switches, new hidden fuel tank and pipework as well as an automatic bilge pump and two fire extinguishers. She also has period navigation lights and spotlight.
The sale includes a bespoke De-Graff four wheel braked trailer (fully serviced in 2018), all weather storage and transporting cover, front and rear covers for use on the water as well as a large history file. The sale includes all ropes, fenders and bespoke seat cushions. Various spares are included as well as Ted's hat, which is stored on the boat.
Thames Vintage Boat Registration number 99.
The boat on her trailer, can be towed by a normal car, I have had no problems towing her and launching using my "C" Class Mercedes.
Reason for sale, health issues means I have problems launching and mooring her on my own.
Boat and trailer out of the water and stored at Pembury, Near Tonbridge Kent.
Irene is all ready to be enjoyed by her new owner.
