Description

Fearnought is a beautiful 36ft. (29' 6" LWL) Gaff Cutter designed by Arthur Payne and built of Teak at Luke brothers yard, Hamble in1897. Her hull is of Carvel Teak on oak frames and is almost entirely original. She has a bolted on ballast keel with a with a cut away forefoot.
There is a huge amount of provenance with this boat including original extracts from The Yachting World from 1896/7 detailing her build progress. She was pictured sailing on the November 1998 cover of Classic Boat.

She is currently laid up and available to view in Cornwall.

Construction

Carvel teak planking on oak frames.
Transom
Planked decks have been sheathed in ply, glass and epoxy to covering boards and painted. I replaced several sections of the deck planking that were soft before sheathing the deck. This has been done for 10 yeqrs now and is still in very good condition.
